Medication-Assisted Treatment

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) uses specific prescribed medications to decrease cravings for addictive substances and increase the likelihood of remaining sober. Research has shown the medications used in MAT to improve the outcomes of addiction treatment over time.

During a MAT program, clients collaborate with a team of addiction treatment professionals including physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and addiction counselors. The focus of a medication-assisted treatment plan is to provide comprehensive treatment that meets the needs of each individual struggling with substance abuse.

This personalized approach typically incorporates medication to reduce cravings, alongside counseling to address emotional and behavioral challenges related to addiction. MAT services are an effective method for helping individuals overcome addiction and achieve a healthier life in recovery.

Treating Co-Occurring Disorders of Addiction

Often, people who struggle with addiction are also dealing with the symptoms of an untreated or improperly treated mental illness. When an individual struggles with mental health issues and addiction, they have what is called a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders. During treatment for addiction, it is important to treat both mental health and substance use disorders simultaneously. That way, the root causes of addiction can be addressed.

At Elevare Behavioral Health, we provide comprehensive treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Our licensed and experienced clinicians work with clients to determine the presence of any co-occurring disorders during treatment.

Examples of co-occurring disorders that we see frequently in our facility near Chicago, IL, include:

Many people entering addiction treatment in Illinois and elsewhere experience mental health disorders along with addiction. Sometimes a co-occurring disorder is missed. This is because the addictive substance and its effects can mask the symptoms of a mental health disorder.

The clinical and medical staff at Elevare Behavioral Health near Chicago are experts at identifying and understanding co-occurring disorders and making sure they’re treated along with the addiction.

We do not allow the use of electronics during clinical hours, except in cases of emergency. We believe this helps to maintain the therapeutic environment.

Each of our clients are assigned a clinical therapist when they arrive. Within 24 hours of being admitted, you will have an opportunity to meet your therapist. The two of you will continue meeting at least once a week for one-hour-long individual sessions. If determined necessary, you may meet more depending on your needs.

Insurance coverage varies from insurance plan to insurance plan. We suggest contacting your insurance company directly or reaching out to one of our admissions coordinators, who can help check insurance coverage. You can also use our online tool to verify your insurance coverage.

We do encourage family involvement, and we offer a few family services for caring family members to assist in their loved one’s treatment. When going to a recovery center, it’s important to be prepared and know what to bring. By having the right items, you can ensure a successful transition into your recovery environment. The following are a few essential items we recommend you bring with you:

  • Health insurance card
  • Driver’s license ID
  • A week’s worth of clothing

If you have a set schedule you need to work around, an outpatient treatment program may be the best option for you. These programs are flexible and allow clients who are working, going to school, or caring for their family to still receive treatment. Additionally, we are able to submit FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) paperwork on your behalf. This act allows you to take additional medical leave while protecting your job. Your employer will not know you are receiving treatment, only that you need medical leave.

It is important to note that an outpatient program is only as successful as the support you receive outside of the program. Staying in a sober living home during treatment can be crucial if you have an unstable home life or stressful home environment.
